The sooner you take it, the more effective it is. Ideally, within 24 hours of unprotected sex, but it can be taken up to 72 hours (three days) for Levonorgestrel-based pills, and up to 120 hours (five days) for Ulipristal acetate.
Effectiveness depends on how quickly it’s taken after unprotected sex. It’s more effective the sooner you take it but is not 100% guaranteed to prevent pregnancy.
